Razzle Dazzle!

Szkafander is a fine series of parties. Unlike for instance Confetti or Ösztrosokk, Szkafander's
parties are actually known to present a rather decent level of audio entertainment. It is indeed a matter of taste, and I will always highlight it, but a party that only has straight edge mainstream music booming from the speakers is a lame party. I know it can be fun from time to time, and I will strike down the first person who ostracises me for loving Britney, however, I still prefer a party that does not try to entertain with music you can usually hear on the radio and basically everywhere you go. Right? Maybe I am just too demanding, but that is the way I roll (I am sure you wanted to know this). In all cases, I am bound to report about all sorts of events, and eventhough I myself am not necessarily entertained, I do not deny you the possibility that you might be. Ok?
I am glad we got this out of our system.

Anyway, by now I really really hope they will not dissapoint me, even though that can hardly happen since it will be DJ MINEK behind the turntables. That usually means that my level of being entertained is on a decent level, as MINEK has fine ears for techno electro, minimal and dance.

The flyer says:

Straight friendly gay clubbing

and that is just wonderful. Why? Because Budapest is known to have a vast array of gay parties which are actally quite secluded. That makes sense one certain levels. Safety being one major one, and also, providing platforms for developing and maintaining a scene is another strong argument pro secluded parties. And they are more arguments, and these are all valid points. On other levels, LGBQT population does not only socialise within the LGBQT population, and it is nice when you can party with your straight friends as well. Isnt it? Szkafander thought of that.

Damn fine...!

Remember this?

Nothing like a great cup of black coffee...Damn good coffee, and hot! Are you in the coffee mood yet?
I already had two this morning. I do not drink it straight black though. I drink it with just a little bit of cold milk and no sugar (I am sure you really wanted to know this...)

The place I will try to turn your attention to is nothing like the one from the 90s TV show, and there are no Dale Coopers sipping it like it was the blood of Christ. Sadly. Even though it is located on the downtown, the place is not your usual tourist trap, and you can find a harmonious cocktail of local LGQBT audience and tourists who got there just cause they liked the idea of sipping something under the sun. Often I do not think they get it all that they are sitting in a gay-bar. But that is the final goal, isnt it? Sometime in the future hopefully this seclusion will not be necessary.

Anyway, to tell you the absolute truth, I have had better coffees many times before, but for some reason I will still go there and have a moderately good coffee and sit there for the atmosphere than go to some dark and unfriendly place where they serve Illy coffee. I can confidently say that as an avid coffee drinker who does not take just any black liquid. The lady who works there, Erika, she knows just how I like it. Not only that - she gives me extra dark chocolate coated coffee beans treat. I am one spoiled customer.

Razzle Dazzle

uh-oh, things are getting intense.   More parties to report about, more fix-me-up treatments to heal the consequences of party hard outbursts. But that's just fine. It is all just fine. Nothing disturbs my inner piece. Not even ...

Wait.

It is that time again. It needs to be done!

Put on my dancing shoes, put on my fancy dress, put on three layers of foundation, thick make-up, eyeliner, eyeliner, eyeliner! Make it shiny, make it glittery, make it snappy and make it visible, damn!

Budapest Pride Rainbow party, in joint organisation of Budapest pride and Confetti party.

Nice move, Confetti team.

The supposedly IT happening of the pride, Budapest Pride closing party may be the LGQBT event for the season. I expect a lot of people and a lot of impressions, simply because the end of the pride feels like the end of a harvest. I really hope for no accidents during the harvesting process. Panem et circenses, my dears, for the night, one night only, after a year of hard work. It is well deserved.

Where: Orfeum

When: 18th June,2011

Why: seriously???

Razzle Dazzle!

That's right y'all!

Another party this very weekend!

Where: Orfeum a pesti mulató1073 Budapest, Erzsébet krt. 43-49.

When: tomorrow, saturday, 28th May, 2011

What is it, already???    Confetti Sport.

Confetti is a very decent series of parties every third Saturday of the month. They almost always occur at the same spot, at the Orfeum, which is rather, hmmm, interestingly decorated. I do not want to spoil it for you, so better see it yourself. The topic for this month is sport, and you are expected to come in a costume. There will be people walking around in bikers' shorts and sweatshirts, so if you are not happy with the usual disco, this just may spice it up. Honestly, most people I see on the streets have hard time distinguishing the sport wear from any other kind of wear,  so the only thing that would spice it up for me would be if someone showed up in a sumo outfit. Music is bearable, at times even fun!

Ohhh, and, remember this? I just got inspired:)

Razzle Dazzle!

And now, finally something for the LADIES!!!!!!!

For future references, whenever you see a post titled Razzle Dazzle, this means I am about to announce some kind of an organised fun activity, formally known as a PARTY!

Yeee-haaa!

The event is called: Ösztrosokk LADIES' WHITE

When ? This Saturday, 28th May.

Where ? Kashmir Underground at Ferenc krt 19., Budapest.

Ösztrosokk is a series of parties. It happens every now and then, more or less every month, for quite some time now, 8 years or so (this is horrid reporting, I am aware of that). They are consistent and successfully target oriented - their events are always full. The more people you see, the more choice you have, right? I definitely hope so. Apparently, they do not permit men to enter, but I know that is a notorious lie, because I have often seen several men dancing to Lady Gaga on an Ösztrosokk party. Anyway, let them put it as they please. Music is mostly bearable (mainstream hits), but sometimes it is bare bad taste (horrid, horrid remixes that make absolutely no sense).   Spank, spank ladies! Do something about the DJs!

However, if it is not entirely important what you are bouncing to, then I definitely advise you to come here and see what this scene is about.

Xoxo,

Vanity

Cruising

I will not beat around the bush. If you want to go cruise, you need to know at least five spots, just in case you run into someone you do not want to see when you are in one of those moods.

1. Coxx

As its name says it, this place is for guys. Boo.
Most things about Coxx bar is great, its location, its outlook, its name...It almost looks like a gallery if you look at it from the streets, but you need to go down to the basement to see whats really cooking. In the winter you can see if its worthwile going in just by looking at the coat hangers which they keep upstairs, if there is a lot - you know there is more to choose from. If there are barely any, you know you should look for another place. Unless for some reason that is your thing.
Music is bearable (you are not there to dip your ears in etheral waves of sound that just enchants), prices are reasonable, and its open till four, weekends till five am. It would have been better if it was open a tiny bit longer, but this will have to suffice for now.

Also, every first Saturday in the month there is an orgy party.

This Saturday 28th May they plan a: Sucker Night.

These programs change, so it is always good to check what is going on here:

2. Action Bar

Situated in the 5th district, which is the downtown, this is another spot that attracts both tourists and locals alike.

There are live sex shows every Saturday, and occasionally themed parties, recently they had a Bear Party titled: Worker's Day Party (appropriate, love the title).
Shows do not begin until 11:30.

Check it yourself:

3.  Sauna 69

This spot is a well-known cruising hot-spot of the entire region. It does not happen rarely that guys from outside of Hungary plan their entire weekend trips only so they could come and see what's hot in the Sauna 69.
Guys who go there are mostly fit and young, and it is rarely empty.
Apart from a really decent steam sauna, you can also treat yourself with a massage, and the entire environment is rather pleasant. Good thing is that you can go almost whenever, as it is open long hours.
Check it yourself:

4. Magnum Sauna.

Now, with Magnum sauna things are slightly different. In case you do not mind a slightly older population coming in, but not necessarily and exclusively older population, this is a place for you. Very good thing is that they have a gym, so in case you do change your mind, you can at least have a decent work out. Or not.
Supposedly, Magnum Sauna is the first gay sauna in Budapest. Cheers to that, they have introduced a rather successful trend!

5. You are not going to believe this. Palatinus Strand (Palatinus Pool) on Margit Island.

Now, I can not give you any official links for this, as this is something like an urban legend, except for the part that it works.
Get your trunks on and get busy queer spotting! Why is this great? A) The sense of adventure is enhanced since you are on your own. B) Open air always has its special charm. Shall I remind you?

XoXo my dears,

I will come back soon!

There is an entrance fee as well: pay it, that is how you support the pride!

Intro

The first one's a flop.

So instead of trying to write something witty and/or humorous, I better get down to business and inform you all of nice things to come.

Five things to look forward to:

1. The Hercules and Love Affair at the Balaton Sound Festival.

Perhaps it was obvious to you all the way. It was not obvious to me.  I am not surprised, because the font they used to advertise this event is tiny, as opposed to huge font they used for the 'bigger' names.

More info about the festival:

Watch the video here:

2. 16th Budapest Pride: 11-19 June 2011.

A pride is a pride. It is better to show your support at this event, rather than the one organised by its opposers (the one last year was preposterous). Be it as it may, let us hope for less intolerance this year .

Link to the event:

3. The Golden Spike Heel Awards (my translation for: Arany Tusarok Díjátadó), 15th June 2011

This event is by now traditionally organised by Capella Cafe, and it is something like Oscars for the trannies.

My favorite one is Betty Blue. Always and forever.  Here is a taste:

4. MIKA at the Balaton Sound Festival.

If Mika is your thing, go for it. Personally, I would prefer to be forced to listen to J Lo's butchered version of Lambada 24/7 (but rather not, if I may have the choice).

De gustibus non est disputandum.

Some would say, what else is there to discuss? Anyway, here is a taste:

5. Sziget Festival: Magic Mirror Tent

Whenever I went to the Sziget, the Magic Mirror Tent was the most entertaining spots to visit. Not to mention a plethora of peachy cutie-pies of all nationalities! Bring it on!!!

Here is a taste:

Soon I will spank you with some more thrilling things to do...

Until then,

xoxo!
